I went in for an annual visit and was told to do an EKG as it was routine for them and covered by insurance. My insurance charged me for this EKG and they were not willing to cover the bill even though I did not request or need an EKG. They also put in my routine annual preventive bloodwork order using diagnostic coding vs preventive coding (which would be covered as is usual with my insurance) and now I am also being charged for basic blood work such as a lipid panel and general health panel. Dr. Scalia saved my life. I came to his office to pick up my pre-surgery paperwork for hip surgery. He noticed that I had labored breathing and suggested that I sit down before leaving. I didn’t have an appointment but he listened to my chest with a stethoscope and insisted that I go to the emergency room. He thought it was a blood clot. The scan verified that I had a blood clot on my left lung and I was admitted to the hospital. I was told that the clot could have traveled to my heart or to my brain. The doctor told me I needed to eat more when it turned out I had a stomach ulcer and strep throat. Do not go here I ended up in the hospital due to the misdiagnosis and with a bill that isn’t even mine.
They billed me for a service I did not get- I was advised that their Labcorp rep was handling the bill and I just received a note saying they sent the bill to collections. While my insurance has been working with their rep. Further, the doctor told me I needed to eat more when it turned out I had a stomach ulcer and strep throat. Do not go here I ended up in the hospital due to the misdiagnosis and with a bill that isn’t even mine.
Editing my review to just update that more than 10 years later Dr. Scalia remains an excellent, knowledgeable, and caring professional. The office staff are all friendly, intelligent, and helpful, providing great and responsive care.
