Suffered 2 yrs spinal stenosis & herniated discs. My back all the sudden gave out worst pain of my life. I could only lay on my stomach. My wife saw the pain I was in and immediately called Dr. Spivak. he said he is scheduled to be out of town but he postponed his trip to see me. Dr. Spivak said to meet him at New York Langone (best Hospital & Staff). This is the second time for my father had surgery by Doctor Spivak. He did excellent job and he is someone you can trust.
Major attitude/arrogant as can be. He seemed almost gleeful about my condition and his diagnosis about it was wrong. I'm thrilled that I've recovered and was spared his offer of a 7 hour operation with "no guarantees." I shudder to think what dealing with him would be like during the challenges of recovery. His partner and p.a. (?) weren't much better.
Dr. Spivak was very informative and spent a lot of time explaining my condition and treatment options. He did not push me to have surgery.
My mother had back surgery last year. Prior to the surgery she NEVER SAW DR. SPIVAK till the day of the surgery. On the day of the surgery 1st thing he asked the attending was if we spoke english (we're hispanics) w/out even acknowleding us 1st to find out. When he finally did approach us, he was rude, arrogant, insensitive and as if he didn't want to be bothered by the questions I had for him (we're talking about back surgery, something VERY DELICATE!).
