Being told that you have a detached retina is a very scary experience. Your life just stops and you are in the hands of health care personnel. Luckily for me I was sent to MEEI and the experience was amazing from the beginning. The Emergency Department was efficient and the staff friendly. I was told to report the next day for surgery and that was where I met Dr. Commander who was my orchestra leader for this journey. The doctors and staff at Mass Eye and Ear are phenomenal. Dr Comander has a great team going, starting from Bonnie the receptionist, to the technicians fellows, and the doctor himself. Everyone is professional and kind, and explain things in an easy-to-understand way. It can be difficult to get an appointment to see him, but for good reason. I was sent to Boston from Portland Maine this past August for a detached retina, it was an emergency visit on a Thursday night. What began as a scary and surreal event turned out to be the best experience I could have imagined ! Dr. Commander and all his team including the operating room techs who stayed late to assist in my surgery were wonderful, caring and extremely capable people. I am forever grateful to Mass Eye and Ear ! Thank you so much ! Dr. Jason Comander is the best !!!
I had a detached retina this past summer, and was assigned Dr. Commander as my surgeon. Lucky for me... he is incredible. His calmness, experience, intelligence, and skills were so amazing. His team was also terrific and turned a scary diagnosis into a positive experience . To be in such capable hands was reassuring. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him for retina issues. From the moment we walked into Dr. Commander's office we were treated with respect and all of our needs were met. The staff and the doctors are all wonderful and work quickly to provide excellent care.
