I recently had a large splenic cyst unroofed with laparoscopy. From my consultation onward, Dr. Acholonu patiently explained things in a straightforward way, but with a side of infectious humour. He instantly puts you at ease. Before surgery too! Don't let the fact that he specializes in bariatric surgery put you off. If you are looking for a general surgeon who is EXTREMELY down to earth, compassionate and knowledgeable, Dr. A will have your back. He truly wishes the best for his patients.
Dr. Acholonu has changed my life for the better! I was having severe complications from a malfunctioning Lapband. After insurance issues, and denial to have it removed, Dr. Acholonu took on my case and has helped me to remove the Lapband and revise to a Gastric Sleeve. I could not be more thrilled to be under the care of Dr. Acholonu and his entire staff. They are kind, efficient, and work hard to help their patients. I would recommend Dr. Acholonu and the Virtua Surgical group to anyone!

Dr. A truly cares about his patients and it shows! When my mom had her gastric sleeve and had some issues with low blood pressure post op, he came back to the hospital with no questions in a rush to see if she was ok. He has perfect bedside manner, and even at the post op visits his excitement for his patients doing well is infectious! I highly recommend him to anyone looking to get surgery!
Dr. Acholonu is not only incredibly skilled and experienced in his field, he is also the kindest, most down to earth surgeon you could ever hope to work with. His sense of humor and genuineness put me at ease prior to surgery and after surgery, he always takes his time to answer all questions without being rushed. He truly cares about his patients and wants all to be successful. I highly recommend him to anyone considering Bariatric surgery.
