When I was a freshman in college, a very close family member was diagnosed with a rare neurological condition. There were no doctors in my family and we struggled to find answers to our questions. The feeling of helplessness prompted me to change my major, pursue pre-medical undergraduate education, and go on to obtain a medical degree.
