If you are old or have a chronic condition, don’t see Dr. Zwahlen. He said I was at too high a risk for developing a fat embolism from a total knee replacement and would only consider an arthroscopic procedure. He was also dismissive of my pain and failed to offer a steroid injection to reduce the inflammation when he knew I shouldn’t take NSAIDs. I fired Zwahlen and saw a UCSF orthopedic surgeon who says the use of grooved rods has greatly diminished the incidences of fat embolisms. Additionally, UCSF doesn’t recommend arth... read more

Dr. Zwahlen failed to acknowledge there were two experts in the room. He was the ortho expert, but I was the expert on me. He never asked how I was feeling, if I was in pain or how the injury occurred. He had a plan for care already in his head before talking with me and did not ask for my input. It was as if his hand was on the doorknob to leave from the moment her walk in the exam room. I guess this is what it feels like to be gaslit.

I saw Dr Zwahlen following a wind sport accident where my knee bent 45 degree the wrong way causing a nearly fully ruptured MCL. I was able to see Dr Zwahlen the day after I called, got an MRI 2 days later, and followed up with Dr Zwhalen via videoconference for his read of the MRI and next steps, which was quite convenient. No surgery was needed; 90 days in a brace with stationary bike exercise for rehabilitation. I was fitted with a top of the line brace at Dr Zwahlen's medical office building and been recovering well.

I had right shoulder injury that Dr. Brad Zwahlen repaired and it was flawless. I had low pain and my recovery was quick. I having him repair my left shoulder in couple weeks and will be flying across country just so he’s my surgeon.

Numerous visits over a period of over a decade. Dr. Zwahlen is friendly, direct, and confident. He goes right to the heart of the problem at once. I appreciate his positivity and his experience. He has advised me multiple times and operated on me once, and I have been more than satisfied every time. Dr. Zwahlen is the best!

Dr.Z has changed my life for the better. Her repaired my right shoulder and bicep which was very badly injured. He has also kept me working while dealing with severe knee pain. Soon he will replace both of my knees. I will be forever grateful for his professionalism and compassion.

Dr Zwahlen is brilliant and compassionate. He diagnosed an infection in my patellar bone bruise that was preventing it from healing over one month, which a couple of other orthopedists had failed to catch. I believe he saved my joint. He truly listens to his patients, takes time to explain everything cogently, calms any fears. It is rare to find a doctor who is so committed to seeing his patients all the way through to wellness.

This is the first review of anything I have ever written on the internet. The office staff in Berkeley and Orinda are awful. Two of my three scheduled appointments were canceled without informing me so I drove an hour each way and had to turn around and go home. I tore my biceps and my rotator cuff and was told by Dr. Zwahlen that if the cortisone injection didn't work after a week I would need surgery to repair the damage. I made my appointment for the injection and when I arrived it turned out they had mistakenly canceled ... read more
