As the daughter of a prominent internist, I have always sought the best medical care I can find. I was referred to Dr. Akey by a top MD specialist in Gainesville after moving here from the Houston area ten years ago. I was a patient of Dr. Akey when she first went in to practice. I moved away and returned to Gainesville and my doctor recently retired and I was fortunate to find Dr. Akey again. I was out of the country and picked up a Parasite. I had 4 test and all were negative. The 1st visit she sent me for labs and another comprehensive test. Bingo, she had the results on the following Tuesday. I was very dehydrated and had lost 12 Pounds. Two week out with treatment I was much better. After a few calls to their office I finally spoke to staff. I provide my insurance info and was sent the 20 page new patient paperwork. Filled it out and drove across turn to drop it off. I then received a phone advising me that “ they are sorry” but they don’t accept my FL blue Medicare PPO. What a waste of time ! I had hoped to get some help . Good grief.
called the prescription line on Wednesday morning to have a prescription refilled and apparently they never called it in because I asked the pharmacy on Friday, so I had to postpone my vacation plans for Sunday....NO MEDS wonder if it will be there Monday ?! unacceptable ! also they had recommended a specialist, I followed up twice because there was no referral sent.... no response yet, going on 3 months. time to switch to UF Health
