I am so grateful to have had Dr. Achal Patel perform my spinal surgery. He took his time explaining to me what they were going to do and the day of surgery, he came to see me afterwards to reassure me everything went great. He stayed on call the entire time I was in the hospital. I was recommended to go to him from my physical therapist and my PPC, which neither knew of each other. Two and a half months post cervical fusion surgery. I've had this cervical fusion surgery, chest surgery, septum nose surgery and a blown out ear drum. The blown ear drum was the most painful, this cervical fusion recovery was the most miserable for recovery. I was told there would be slight discomfort, swallowing discomfort and a possible loss of voice. Sight discomfort was a massive understatement. Dr. A. Patel is an excellent Neurosurgeon. He took his time to explain the procedure to me and was very patient listening to my concerns. He recommended an ALIF for my S1-L5 and L5-L4. ALIF is the procedure where they go through the abdomen to get to the disks. for this reason Dr. Patel referred me to Dr. Skubic who is a general surgeon to assist him with the procedure.
