Sadly this place was not able to help my daughter in any meaningful way. Unfortunately when family court is involved, there are no therapists who will intervene and speak up for a child, and Doorways is no exception. As a result my daughter was invalidated and gaslighted and further traumatized. I find “Christian” therapy is no exception, and can in fact cause even more harm do to the expectation that they will somehow be different. They aren’t. I had a wonderful experience working with two different counselors, Amy and Maddy, over the course of about six months this past year. I have nothing but positive feedback about their professionalism, empathy, skills, and level of care about their work. The front office staff was wonderful to interact with, in person and over the phone, as well. The DBT IOP taught skills well but in private sessions their therapist told my child how to transition genders behind our backs. They also withheld my child’s confessions of Suicidal ideation with plan as well as active self harm. Turned out my child is very highly functioning autistic. This proper diagnoses made by a psychologist caused the gender dysphoria issues they were experiencing to go by the wayside, they finally understood why they felt different and a huge weight was lifted from them!
