The Homer Don Jose's is the original, and the owner lives in Homer. Consequently, it is the best of the Don Jose's and stands head and shoulders above the rest. The food is authentic Mexican and very, very good. Prices are moderate and service is very good. Also, the full bar is delightful and there is a happy hour. I strongly recommend this restaurant, and you'll find a large number of local residents hanging out in it all the time.
Have been eating here for many years. I always try to go out of the area to find another place, but always find my self coming back here. Service is great, when they take your order you get your food fast. Always refill water and chips and salsa. Fair prices and great place to eat with family and friends.
Don Jose's is a good value for decent Mexican food. Service is always friendly, too. It's definitely not Tex Mex, but many dishes are close enough I guess.. They do have a fresh salsa, VERY good house margaritas, and some standout items such as the Chili Verde (slow-cooked pork in a delicious green sauce)
I never would have expected good Mexican food in Alaska, but I couldn't be more wrong. The service was very good, I got a sampler plate and had trouble finding anything wrong with the dinner. The presentation was great, and the salsa had just the right amount of "kick".
Went here for the second time tonight. They did not skimp on the servings and the food was good. The wait staff kept our chips and salsa full. They were friendly and attentive. Our only criticism was that their "hot" sauce was not hot enough.
This place takes a lt of heat from bad review's, however their parking lot is always full. Great food and awesome owners
Every time I come through Homer I end up eating at Don Jose's at least once, which is fine. It's your run of the mill local mexican joint. The food is edible and the prices are a bit inflated, but, then again, it is Homer, Alaska. This place is good when you want an easy place to walk in and get food.
Highly Recommended! – A real sleeper of a restaurant. The food is excellent, a comfortable atmosphere, and the selection is very good. The prices are moderate and we've had good experiences there repeatedly. Try the Arroz Con Pollo and the torilla soup. Enchiladas are also excellent. I recommend this place whole heartedly. Drinks are fair priced, the chips are fresh and the service is good.
Yummy authentic Mexican food with a nice atmosphere. It's not crazy loud with mariachi bands playing at the table next to you, but it's not a quiet candlelit place either. Kids are welcome. We go once a month or so and it suites our Mexican food cravings.
