Don & Charlie's is an iconic spot for sports fans, esp. those in town for spring training (Go A's!) The memorbilia is off the charts from Clemente's bat to baseballs and jerseys signed by HOFers, its amazing! I always get the same thing: pate appetizer, prime rib as rare as it comes w/broccoli & deli style cole slaw. It is always delicious, the service is great and you never know who you might run into. Ive sat next to HOFer Rollie Fingers twice!
The chopped liver appetizer is practically mandatory.
Believe it or not, the ribs and seafood are better than the steaks so try to convince your crew to share a bunch of items.
Not worth the hype After waiting so long to taste their famous ribs, I was very underwhelmed. Dickie's are better. While the meat was of high quality and no fat, I could not detect any smoked flavor at all, as I have at other places. The BBQ sauce was blah. I was amazed at the fine reputation they have! It's like going to the Baseball Hall of Fame and smiling from the time you enter until you leave. Ribs are excellent. During Spring Training, the baseball stars, present and past, are everywhere.
The artichoke dip doesn't come with toast points, regardless of what the menu says.
Two words: Chopped Liver
