Dixie Kitchen and Bait Shop I didn't see any bait here but the kitchen sure is good! This is New Orleans style food at its down-home best. Having lived in the Big Easy for a few years, we were happy to find a restaurant where they know how to fix gumbo, crawfish etouffee, and catfish along with red beans-and-rice and black-eyed peas. Bon appetit!

Awesome breakfast! I visited the Dixie Kitchen restaurant while staying with friends, and it made me (a southerner) feel right at home. The food was so good and I could not eat enough grits. The service was awesome too. I loved it and I hope to go back soon!

Southern soul food in Northern Illinois Dixie Kitchen has a kitchy décor which may trick people into thinking that they food will be run of the mill – but don’t underestimate them. Some of my faves: the oyster po’boy, the Southern Sampler with gumbo, jumbalaya, and red beans and rice (an amazing value!), and the fried green tomato’s. They’ve recently added some great lunch specials that are only $6 – a steal! They also have daily specials, like fried chicken. My other regular item is the peach ice tea – delish! They do not t... read more

My husband and I LOVE Dixie Kitchen. Great Southern food with very generous portions. Love the fried chicken. Always top it off with the yummy peach cobbler!

Try the whole menu! Not in one sitting though, what I meant is this is one of those places where you keep going back to try something new and different on the menu each time. I love Southern cooking, so whenever I have a hankering for it, this is the place I go, and I have a hankering for it every time I am in Evanston. Both the starters and entrees are good, I've worked my way through almost half of the choices on the lunch menu, and about a quarter of the dinner menu. Everything tastes just as good as if I were in the kitc... read more

BEST Southern Food in Chicagoland – I LOVE THIS PLACE! I'm from Texas and when I need good southern, homecooking I head to Evanston. The fried okra reminds me of moms (shhh, don't tell her). The biscuits and gravy are a must for brunch...seriously, I can't say enough about how good they are. Love the fried catfish (would throw some black pepper and canjun spice in the mix)...but it is really good. Love the fried chicken...I think you see the pattern here for fried! The service is great, but I do miss the chicory coffee...bri... read more

Good service & Tasty Food! – There's nothing like sitting down at a restaurant and getting warm mini corn-pancakes in the bread basket. They've got crazy flavorful Jamaican chicken wings and huge salads. Sadly, I was a little dissappointed with their cornbread though...dry and didn't have a strong corn flavor. :( Decent prices though!
