We stopped here for three days on our cross country honeymoon trip last summer!! Love the area, can hardly wait to visit again! :)
We had a great time at Devils Tower. The views were stunning. We didn't have a lot of time so we didn't make it all the way around but it was still amazing. Also, the little creatures were abundant. There were chipmunks, squirrels and a pretty big prairie dog town as you drive up to Devils Tower.
One of the tours to the tower is really amazing to go on.
Other than the Restrooms being closed (porta-pottys were provided), I though it was wonderful. Walked/hiked the shortest trail at 1.3 miles. Even that short trail took me quite some time, as I would walk a ways then take a picture... repeatedly. Also, it was interesting because there were a number of climbers 'on the rock' that day (091716). I wish I had more time to have just sat, meditated and taken in the splendor of it all, and I hope to visit again, 'sooner than later'.
Very cool to visit for the first time! The hike around the tower was nice and lots of good photo opportunities are abundant. You also get to see all the natural things that surround the tower with the wooded areas and vistas in some spots.
It is a beautiful place, love the trail that goes around the tower.
Rangers here are first class, knowing all about the history, geology, and cultural importance of the site. The National Park Service is one agency whose budgeted dollars work harder than most other areas, because the Rangers work harder, learn about their new job assignments, and cheerfully greet crowds while working jobs which often are temporary and may not exist next season, or, the individuals may have to move to another park in a different area of the country.
Did not have any "close encounters" but it was worth every bit of of our time driving up to see Devil's Tower. It was more than what my boyfriend and I have expected to see and experience. Pictures don't do justice. You must be there to experience its majestic beauty and mystic. We'll definitely be going back.
