I scheduled as a new patient at Dermatology of Las Cruces with an overdue skin exam. Initially I was impressed with the ambiance of the office along with the professional demeanor and friendliness of the staff. Unfortunately, my initial impression was short lived. I would consider the skin exam incomplete compared to experiences I’ve had out of state that always included the scalp, nose, nails and buttocks being checked. Based on previous reports I was hesitant about going to this practice. But I was very satisfied with my experience. The front desk staff were friendly and efficient. The medical assistant welcoming and considerate. The provider was through and competent. I would definitely recommends this office.
The dermatologist was excellent and explained my treatment thoroughly, which helped me understand everything clearly. However, I’ve found the medical assistant or receptionist to be quite rude during every phone call. It often feels like I’m inconveniencing her just by calling to schedule an appointment or to follow up about a prescription not being sent to my pharmacy (which has happened multiple times). I don't know whether I caught Dr. Ondo on a bad day or not, but he was rather short with me. He did not let me finish any of my sentences, and I ended up leaving my appointment without addressing one of the two reasons that brought me in. Update, January 28, 2025. ***I have seen Dr. Ondo again and he was kind and responsive to my questions. I consider him to be my dermatologist!***
