I brought two high end watches in to be repaired. One was running slow, the other wasn't running. For the appraisal he wanted $85 to waterproof the watch that wasn't running and another $80 to oil the movement. For the other he wanted $540 to overhaul, explaining it had been damaged during its last service. Waterproofing the first watch involves replacing a gasket that costs pennies. I went to Daviko Gems to sell some old jewlery. The owner was extremely friendly and he took the time to explain the process to me and how the jewlery is evaluated, etc. He gave me a fair price for the scrap gold I have, and even told me that his offer on my rings was too low, and that most places will probably be about the same. He said if I really needed the money, that's what he could offer, but that I would be better off selling them privately to somebody looking for a complete ring. I took his advice.

THIS IS BY FAR THE LAST PLACE YOU WANT TO GO FOR ANY JEWELRY, OR RELATED SERVICE. TRIED TO GET A TIMEPIECE REPAIRED AND AFTER THREE ATTEMPTS TO GET THE WATCH REPAIRED IT WAS RETURNED DAMAGED AND NOT WORKING PROPERLY. THE OWNER INSISTED HE HAD TO BE PAID AFTER THE FIRST ATTEMPT, AND BEFORE HE WOULD FIX HIS FAULTY WORK, AND SO HE COULD PAY HIS VENDOR !!!.
