My wife and I truly don't have enough great things to say for Dr. Kays and his team. My son had surgery done in January of this year and he is a brand new baby after it. We are about a month post-op and my son gets better and stronger with each day. My wife and I talk that we are happy to be through surgery and back home, but feel sad that our time with the CDH unit at John Hopkins is over. We traveled from central MN down to this hospital and I would do it all over again in a heart beat.
Dr. Kays is an absolute legend of a human being and Doctor. This is the rare case where someone can say this person has truly made a difference in the world. Dr. Kays is responsible for saving hundreds of children’s lives. If your child is born with CDH this is the person you need to bring them too. He saved my son’s life, and countless others. I sincerely urge parents to take your child to him, given a CDH diagnosis.
I can’t thank Dr. Kays enough for the care and compassion shown to my daughter during one of the scariest times of our lives. From the very first moment, Dr. Kays was calm, focused, and incredibly reassuring—not only to us as parents, but most importantly, to our daughter.
Dr. Kays is a lifesaver. During my wife's pregnancy in November of 2019, our unborn son was diagnosed with CDH (Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia = hole in the diaphragm) during a routine unltrasound. As we live in southwestern Illinois, we were referred to a nearby nationally top ranked hospital for treatment.
