After a massive stroke and a major sergery later we decided to bring mom to Kindred for recovery and we ended up VERY dissapointed with the quality care given!!!!! Mom got a huge pressure wound that 6 months later were still trying to heal and a few other smaller ones. The staff was EXTREMLY rude and disrespectful! The only good thing was a few respiratory staff members that actually cared. We had my mom transferred to Kindred Mercy at St. Joe's from SLUH. She had a trach & needed a facility to help wean her off the ventilator. The day she was transferred she had been off the ventilator for 36 hours, was using her speaking valve (which Kindred staff lost), & eating soft foods. The day after she arrived my niece went up to see her at 7:30 in the morning & my mom had diarrhea all the way up to her neck with no nurse in site. The Kindred Staff offered wonderful services to my mother during her stay at Kindred at Mercy. After her stroke, I was nervous to have her move from ICU to a hospital but all of my concerns were relieved. The Respiratory Team worked with my mom to get her breathing independently in about a week and were very professional. The Therapy Team were able to educate us on how to support her in therapy. Not the kind of place you go if you or your love one requires a lot of attention. Response times were for the most part horrible requiring visitors to go to the nurses station to seek out the on duty personnel assigned to our loved one. The rooms were not cleaned daily. Our relative was there to get weaned off the trek and had acquired a terrible cough which at times made it difficult to breathe.
