I felt he was full of himself. He didn't know anything about me or the problem I was having. When he seen this on medication I was on it was all the medicines fault. I have had stomach issues for over 25 years and he didn't want to discuss those. He felt like I was rambling with my answers to his questions. I wouldn't go to him again if he was the last person available.

Dr. Coffey explained the procedure he would be performing, I had colon cancer, Sigmoid, Ileostomy, with a stoma and have to wear the bag. The surgery was performed by a surgical resident, not Dr. Coffey as he detailed. He was there to supervise. There were complications, excessive bleeding, and vent intubation none of which Dr. Coffey detailed to my spouse and to date not to me. Being diabetic, my A1C fluctuated, the Good Dr. refused to reverse the surgery until it was below 7.0. After much research, I have learned that my r... read more

Dr. Coffey is a great surgeon. That is all that matters.

Bedside manner was horrible. Did not set accurate expectations for recovery and gave no privacy or respect. No information about the surgery was given. I have never been more dissapointed in a doctor. DO NOT GO HERE

Dr. Coffey is a great surgeon and potentially saved my life. His expertise and skill as a surgeon is what you should be concerned with if you are seeking surgical care, not his personality or communication skills. I admit his bedside manner could be better, I felt he was a little dispassionate when he broke the news to me that my biopsy was positive and I indeed had rectal cancer. That was a very scary time for me and I felt he was less than fully empathetic at the time. I can only imagine how impossible it must be to deal w... read more

I have read several reviews here and I cannot keep silent any longer. As a physician, I know what is important in a surgeon and what is not. Most reviewers here are confused; are you looking for a surgeon to perform a precise surgery or a dinner guest? Nobody except other physicians understands that "bedside manner" in a surgeon is utterly irrelevant. The ONLY thing that matters in a surgeon is skill and technical expertise! Let me assure you that I chose Dr. Coffey because of his superb skill and technical expertise. I abso... read more

Dr. Coffey has no business practicing medicine. He is cold, dismissive of questions, and his bedside manner is appalling. I am not sure if he lacks the communication skills to talk to patients effectively or just chooses not to. He performed a colonoscopy and before the effects of the anesthesia had worn off, he proceeded to tell me I had “a serious form of colitis and could lose my colon!” He also could not tell me if the medicine he prescribed was safe for breastfeeding and told me I would have to look it up. He then refus... read more

Strongly recommend anyone considering going to Dr. Coffey to reconsider. Read his reviews on other websites. He has no bedside manner and refused to answer questions after giving a "serious" diagnosis. Even advised that questions should be looked up instead of providing answers. What doctor tells a patient to google or go to the internet for answers?

I've had great experiences with Dr. Coffey. The wait time in his office was minimal and the staff was friendly. He personally called me the day after my biopsy to inform me of the results and discuss my treatment options.
