On this day (9/27/23) Crown Chimney to clean our pellet stove & pipe going to roof. We were told the fee would be $400. Once they got here they came in & looked at stove. They then went up on roof, about 20 minutes later they knocked on door & told me that upon inspection that the flue pipe was not to code & said the bottom cap was not installed (not sure how they determined that). My pellet stove tune up and hearth pad installation could not be done. The exhaust pipe was too short to meet code on the roof. The added cost to fix it was too costly. A roofer would have to repair the roof as well if I agreed to the added repairs. I decided not to. There was no work done to the pellet stove except for the removal of the exhaust pipe. Ms. ******* has been a customer of Crown Chimney since 2018 and we are sorry to have let her down. Our technicians dispatched to Ms. ********* home to perform contracted work which included the inspection and cleaning of a pellet stove and flue. As the NFPA 211 Level 1 inspection was conducted, it became evident that the appliance and venting system did not meet code requirements. They call you 3 minutes before an estimate to cancel when you made in appointment 3 weeks beforehand.
I am kind of disappointed that I paid $300 for two flues to be inspected and all they did was take a point and shoot camera photo to point out streaks which may or may not have been cracks. :-/
