I went to Dr. Wirt for an orthopedic follow up appointment for my sprained ankle. He barely looked at my ankle and didn’t ask any follow up questions. He then told me stay in the boot until the pain goes away and if I’m still in it in 5 weeks then I should seek physical therapy. I didn’t trust this and went to see a physical therapist anyway right away, she said it’s good I came in because if I just sat in my boot and waited it would have taken so much longer to gain strength and mobility back. Dr. Wirt treated me for a Morton’s neuroma for 3 years. Every day I walked around with what felt like a sharp rock under my forefoot. After 2 cortisone injections, countless prednisone packs, multiple different types of shoes/inserts/taping, and no improvement, he finally sent orders for an MRI. After the results came in, I was instructed to get a new post operative shoe and “wait it out” by the nurse via phone. Inaccurately diagnosed my son as having toenail fungus and treated him as that for over a year. Made comments when we came back as his treatment was not working. We tried a new podiatrist a few months ago who sent samples out to a lab and found out he does NOT have fungus. She accurately diagnosed and treated it within 2 weeks. Disappointing that he just didn’t even really try.
When he keeps an appointment he is fine. Has cancelled 2 of my 3 appointments. No longer does Diabetic Foot Care. Must be nice to not care about existing patients and not even provide a recommendation. Save yourself a cancelled appointment and find someone else.
Dr. Wirt is one of the best podiatrists in Illinois.
