BUYER BEWARE: If your in the market for a storage unit, PLEASE DO NOT USE "COMPASS SELF STORAGE" anywhere! The places are not only dirty and filled with thick dust on the items every time I would go. Also, the rain will get to them as well and they do not care. I've had to spend hours replacing boxes and repacking those that had been soak. As well, they will go up on monthly prices without contacting you via in writing or email, even though they say otherwise. I was a customer in 2003 when a company called Carolina Mini Storage was in charge. All those years being I had no issues ;but when Self Compass came in the 10% military discount went away because the so called management was giving their friends the discount also. My unit 317 was in Goldsboro, NC. They only have one camera; which is at the gate. I personally walk around one to document the missing lights that were out and gave the list to a former manager and to this day those same lights are still out. So much for safety ... read more

Not happy at all every 6 months they go up on the rent by 25.00 plus dollars a month and when I call to speak with the corp office to find out why no one knows and or they will have someone call me back and they do they send me a bill....going up from 145.00 per month in 3 years to 237.00 per month with 3.00 proess fee for each payment and 40.00 late fees during the covid crisis is very sad ...Lost a customer!..zero stars...Miss Hill

The basic business model is to get your stuff in with a low price offer and then hold it hostage to huge price hikes which occur unexpectedly, making it difficult to keep the payments right (although they have started sending statements by email). It might work out for a short tenancy if you diligently review statements every month, but you will have to be prepared to move all your stuff again in a couple of years or else pay exorbitant rent before long.
