Commis -- a little Paris in Oakland Even if you hate driving to Oakland, much less going over the Bay Bridge, GO. Just go across the bridge to Commis. The value for what you get is the most perfectly aligned that you can get ... even if you're driving from SF as we were. According to a nytimes interview, James Syhabout , the chef at Commis, was influenced L'Astrance in Paris, which we've eaten at. Pretty ok... – Ok, I know Commis is Michelin rated...but they lost me on the dessert... I went there with a date on Christmas Eve; The prefixed menu was lovely. The food was amazing and the staff were just attentive enough. The lemongrass soda was delicious. My date and I both ordered different things, and a matching wine selection.
