The building at 50 Commerce pulses with history. Depression-era revelers snuck in it when it was a speakeasy. As the Blue Mill Tavern, it saw 50 years of change. And as Grange Hall, it captured the heart of Greenwich Village as a beloved gathering place. Now, as Commerce, a restaurant serving fine food prepared by chef Harold Moore, the building welcomes a slew of modern visitors seeking a warm place to share a meal and a sense of community. Owned by reputable restauranteur Tony Zazula and noted Chef Harold Moore, Commerce i... read more

Pathetic – This place should be a wonderful spot. However, for the price the dining experience should be far more well rounded. The food was good, but was not great. The service was disgraceful and the behavior of the other patrons was unwashed. To the establishment's credit, we were seated quickly even though it was crowded. However, we then waited (not kidding) 20 minutes to be offered water, drinks, or a chance to review the wine list. We were also seated next to a table of drunken soon-to-be-fired Wall Street wannabes wh... read more
AMAZING!! – I had one of the best dinners at this restaurant. The atmosphere is very cozy, yet slightly rustic, while being very welcoming. We arrived early to dinner and we seated promptly at a booth ( i love booths). We has a really great Spanish wine, the wine list is quite extensive. I started with the Rare Beef Tataki which was wonderfully delicious. My boyfriend had the fluke sashimi which was very tasty! The best part of the whole meal was the porterhouse for two. We ordered it rare and it was cooked perfectly! It was... read more
The ghosts of West Village restaurants past inhabit this haute New American tavern. – The Scene Tucked away on one of Manhattan's curviest streets, this American restaurant looks to recapture some of the magic of the landmarked space's past tenants (Blue Mill, Grange Hall). The art deco Brunswick bar is circa 1941, the English Chestnut booths have been lovingly restored, and despite the tony crowd and $15 cocktails, the tightly-packed, mirror-lined dining room still emanates classic tavern bonhomie. Sweet, spot-on service ke... read more
Great ambiance, attentive service – We had a 9:45 reservation on a Saturday night and arrived expecting the worst . Sure enough the place was packed and our table not quite ready but the super-nice host (who did his best to accommodate our request to be seated in a "quieter" spot, and even thanked us for our patience), the attentive staff, and the excellent food more than made up for the short delay being seated. My friend and I ordered the truffle-oil infused halibut and mushroom and fontina ravioli and both dishes were per... read more
Great service, great food, slightly cramped tables – I too had always loved Grange Hall and was interested to see what this new version might be like. Unlike the other reviewers I thought the food was great and the service was impeccable. We had almost no wait for any course and the servers and the manager were incredibly attentive. I would definitely go back. My only complaint is the tables are slightly cramped and there's little space between them.
1st Time Reviewer - Long time Foodie – I am one of those people who have never posted a review of a restaurant ANYWHERE but after my egregious experience last evening I feel a need to. I was a huge fan of Grange Hall and was very excited when I saw they had re-opened the space with Harold Moore having enjoyed many meals at March. What happened here??? Tables were typically tight with a very un-like Grange Hall crowd. I used to love the mix of locals and artists that used to frequent it in the day. Now it seems more of your t... read more
Awful – My boyfriend and I decided to splurge on a nice dinner, and this place was just terrible. We never knew who our waiter was, but one of them recommended a $35 steak special- we splurged, and it was smaller than an appetizer. When I called the waiter over he said he didnt remember recommending it! I dont make alot of money, so I felt like we were really taken advantage of. Two different people laughed at me when I expressed my dissapointment in the $35 food. Laughed! Then someone brought us a free dessert that tasted l... read more
New hot spot in town, but the service is lacking. Avoid saturday nights. – Commerce Great location and attracks all the right people. Although it has only been open for 3 weeks the service is more than lacking. The wait for your entre is painful. The food is good enough, but the portions are so small that you better eat before you get there. Do not pass up the breads..Fresh and homemade, it will hold you over for the long wait.
Elegant hangout for foodies and great looking people – This is a stunning return of a favorite haunt of mine -- the Grange Hall -- from the 1990s. According to my waiter, the owners restored a vintage bar (in keeping with the history of the place which was call Blue Mill during Prohibition) and commissioned a painter to create a mural of these super looking women. The place is warm and inviting, and located on the most charming block in the city (Commerce/Barrow), next to the Cherry Lane Theater. I've been there twice in one... read more
