My daughter volunteers for Challenged Champions which is a similar organization here in Ottawa, Ohio. Places like this do wonderful, rewarding work which not only benefits the patrons but also the volunteers.
If you are looking for a place to build community, to engage meaningfully with your local area, and/or to interact with horses, this is THE PLACE. People come for the horses, but stay for the other humans. The herd (equine) is composed of horses with the best temperaments. The volunteers are genuine and kind. Definitely worth a visit to see how you might fit in.
Words can't express how much they have done to work with our son on getting him to ride a horse and to keep riding. Never rode one till here. You can truly see they understand on how to work with kids on the spectrum, the patience, & technics of trying different things to do tasks. But also the volunteers that help out are so awesome too! The horses are so well trained for these kids and people with disabilities! It is amazing to watch the bonding with the horse and the child/adult.
