While you may be hesitant to go without your gorgeous furs for even a few days in the middle of a cold snap, giving them proper cleaning is critical to keeping them looking their best. Not only will your fur look better with regular cleaning, but it will feel better against your skin as well.

Kerosene was the first solvent used for the dry cleaning process, when it was discovered that kerosene lifted dirt without messing up the clothing’s fibers. However, kerosene’s flammable nature posed a problem, which is why it was replaced by the non-flammable organic halogen compound called perchloroethylene.

Accidents happen to everyone. If you happen to spill something on your fur garment, tend to the spot immediately, blotting it with a clean towel or cloth. Then take the item to a professional cleaner as soon as possible so they can complete the stain removal process.

What types of fabrics usually require dry clean-only care? Natural fabrics – particularly silk and wool, plus synthetic fabrics including rayon and acetate blends. Some types of clothes which are crafted with pleats or delicate synthetics may also require dry clean-only care.
