He takes time to explain all alternatives and in language you can understand. After 20 years of being in pain Dr. Mackay gave me 3 fusions, a laminectomy, plus 2 other things. I've tried so many other things before surgery because spine surgery you usually go as a last resort. After an uneasy truce w/ my 74 y/o spine over the last 29 yrs (2 procedures ago), all went to heck again in Apr '22; debilitating by June. Already familiar w/ Dr Mackay from his surgical work on our daughter abt 4 yrs ago which was a great success. Dr. Mackay is kind and knowledgeable. He always is willing to take the time to describe my condition and answer any questions I have. His staff is thorough and friendly. I strongly recommend Dr. Mackay over any other neurosurgeon in the area.
I had back surgery performed about 3 years ago by Dr. MacKay; I had severe spinal stenosis of the lumbar spine, and he did an outstanding job of correcting the problem with a minimally invasive procedure (actually, he performed 4 procedures during the operation)! I left the hospital two days later, pain free, on scheduled medication, which I was able to discontinue within a month, retaining my pain-free status. I have been seeing Dr. Mackay concerning severe back pain. He is always professional, thorough, and personable. He takes the time to explain procedures and therapy in terms I can understand. We chose Dr. Mackay due to his reputation for being THE surgeon for back injuries in central Wisconsin. I was treated with the utmost care after I broke my neck in an ATV accident. My pain and condition were treated seriously and with the highest level of care by not only Dr. Mackay but the entire staff of nurses, PA's, and receptionists at the Brain and Spine Group. I obviously didn't want to break my neck but I feel incredibly fortunate to have had their care and experience while going through this ordeal. I wish them and their practice all the best.
Dr. Mackay performed major back surgery on me June 1, 2017. Several lumbar fusions and two laminectomies. I was walking the day after surgery, and accomplished 3 stairs the following day. He successfully corrected all of my painful back issues. This gifted surgeon's skills have allowed me to resume nearly all of my daily activities. I very highly recommend him to anyone who needs back surgery.
I wouldn't recommend him to anyone. He is not a doctor for the right reasons in fact he drops patients like there garbage.
Dr. Mackay assessed my condition, engaged specialists to validate the severe nature of my pain, communicated treatment options. He was focused 100% on my well-being during the process. Dr. Mackay performed spinal surgery that immediately eliminated my severe pain and recurring back issues. Dr. Mackay's team was professional and caring through out the process and acted as advocates for me during the health care approval process through post surgery care. Dr. Mackay and his team are the best.
