A Greek Revival-style mansion now open to the public, the Chatillon-DeMenil house dates to 1849, when the first portion was built for Henri Chatillon, a hunter and guide with Francis Parkman's Oregon Trail expedition. Sold to the DeMenil family a few years later, it was soon enlarged and transformed into the current Greek Revival form. I went to the Chatillon-DeMenil House for Bastille Day 2019 as it looked like the best celebration of french culture in Saint Louis. I was quite charmed by the house and especially the tour guide. On Bastille Day, the ticket price was $12, but it included french dancing, storming the Bastille, plus the mock decapitation of Marie Antoinette and King Louis XVI. We had our wedding here in May of 2016, and it was BEAUTIFUL! I loved having the freedom to decorate how we wished. I loved the freedom to choose a caterer of our choice. I loved how relaxed and informal it was, and how lovely at the same time. The team was very informative and kind and they really made us feel welcomed. I recommend them every chance i get. I had the best day and I wish I could relive it over and over! �
We booked the Carriage House and Mansion for our Oct 20th, 2018 wedding reception. Our check was cashed, and a couple weeks later we received an email from Curtis informing us they can no longer uphold our reservation for our reception due to renovations and changes to the property that will be going on at that time. Now, almost every place we looked at prior to booking the DeMenil is already booked. I’m a history buff/nerd and the Victorian era is my top favorite periods! I highly recommend going! I learned so much more from our tour guide, he was very knowledgeable on the House and the era!
Had the best time ever, went to a wedding before Halloween which is my birthday and the theme was 1920s all i can say is what a blast from the past.
My daughter just had her fairytale wedding at this majestic lovely place! �
