We only did the gold panning experience & perhaps the rating would be higher if we had also done the tour. Some feedback I'd give is to move the troughs into the nearby shade under the trees or provide an authentic experience down at the creek if we're going to be in the sun anyway. Josh (?) was a knowledgeable & enthusiastic guide who kept things interesting & fun.
We travelled to Venus Gold Battery to try out gold panning. Josh was excellent at showing us the steps, he is also a great host with lots of interesting information about gold and the local area. What a great experience, got ourselves a bit of gold. Not often you get a reward so soon after training.
Great tour - we learned a lot about Charters Towers and how gold was discovered and processed. It was very interesting and our guide was very informative.
Such an amazing snapshot into our North Queensland history. Well done! Charters Towers. Just the right amount of education, insight and whimsy! I especially appreciated our guides superior knowledge of his chemical compounds! Cherry on the top!
I had an amazing day. 😊 First with Josh who taught me how to pan properly!!! Now I'm going to go panning heaps and make a fortune!! 😅😅 Josh was very good at explaining and demonstrating, which in turn made it easy for me to follow. Then i did the afternoon tour with John. Amazing historian with a hint of humour! Great story teller. The Battery is a fascinating place on its own, but the addition of a couple of different optics took the experience to the next level.
