We stayed in Chapin (G block) for seven years in a family apartment, and in one word, we loved it. I recommend Chapin as it is family friendly and the cheapest on campus apartment. It has a bus stop where you can catch a bus to campus, and in front, we have Stony Brook Hospital, where the Hospital Express bus and public buses are available. Many blocks are currently being renovated, but the apartment we stayed in has not yet undergone renovation, so it is very old.
