I took my Chihuahua to this vet for a breathing problem, he was gasping for air and getting worse. Another vet said he had pneumonia. They correctly diagnosed him with a heart problem and confirmed my suspicion that he would not have made it through the night. They were very caring. Medical care for pets and humans is expensive and they explained it would be around $3000 to save him. I paid it with full knowledge up front. 6 months later, sadly, he was in the same situation and I was unable to afford the treatments again and... read more

Unfortunately, we've had to make a few visits to Carson-Tahoe Vet Hospital; no one wants to go to the emergency vet. That being said, we've had nothing but great results. While the bill is generally pretty expensive, we were told upfront what we would be expected to pay and asked to what degree did we want them to take life saving measures. My guess is the bill is generally higher than going to your regular vet because this is an emergency situation, all lab work is done in house and rather immediately. Our dogs have been tr... read more

In response to jahant: You as the owner are the one who authorized all treatments. If you did not want your loved one on any machine, or did not want any tests ran, you have the right to decline all of this. You also are the one to decide when it is time to put you loved one to sleep not the doctor. Blaming others for your choices is unfair. This hospital or any other can not do anything that you yourself did not authorize. I understand that it is a traumatic thing when your loved one is in pain or sick, but as the owner of ... read more

House of Horrors, I happen to agree, more concerned with the cost, than the health of the pet. I flat out told them I hope I never have to enter this door again. My poor sick baby. I loved her extremely and so did hubby, she was just so sickly. Yup, I would not recommend going here to anyone.

Worst experience of my life – Taking my severely injured dog to Dr Hittenmiller at CTVC was the worst experience of my life. After $15,000 in charges and a dog that had been kept alive on machines when he should have been euthanized is something I will never get over. When my dog finally died after days of painful, invasive and futile surgeries and treatments, his body was left on the floor in a garbage bag for us to pick up. Call the NV Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners at 775-688-1788 before you take your pet here.

In response to Donna G. It is very difficult to have a pet that is in critical condition. Owners often blame themselves, other family members, or the veterinarians and staff for the costs of treatment. Emergency and 24 hour care is unpredictable and can be expensive. Options for owners are always given. In this case there was a treatment plan that had been discussed by the admitting CTVH veterinarian with the referral hospital. This plan was presented to Mr. H. during the exam, and after consulting with his wife by phone, wa... read more

I agree with all the other postings that state that the care is substandard, the facility is dirty and the owner, Hittonmiller is arrogant. However, it is the questionable billing procedures that I want to highlight for any other unsuspecting victims. I took my pet to the hospital under emergency conditions. Before even looking or touching my pet, they required me to sign and PAY for a 24 hour “treatment plan” costing nearly $2000. At the bottom of this plan was the following statement: “This estimate is a good faith estimat... read more

Will be taking all 3 of my dogs here! Dogs don't lie – I took my elderly dog there a couple yrs ago after she began losing balance, etc. The staff was friendly, concerned, explained all costs in advance, as I asked since it's MY business to know what it costs (as well as to get an explanation of any terminology I may not understand.) I had no complaints & she has had no major issues since. I had the need to take my 2 yr old Shepherd / Malamute in this past weekend for what turned out to be a glandular issue in back. Again, fr... read more
