About this business

An experience at Chicago's very own Carnivale is a taste of South American fusion cuisine. The eclectic menu, the brainchild of chef Mark Mendez, includes dishes from Brazil, Puerto Rico, Cuba, and Colombia. The pork shoulder with Puerto Rican rice and fried plantains is universally considered one of the menu's highlights. Not only does Carnivale have a full bar, but the awe-inspiring décor is sure to delight. The 35 foot high drapes and a second story wine wall backlit with vibrant colors help to create an unforgetta... read more

BEST OVERALL RESTAURANT IN CHICAGO! – I honestly cannot believe how amazing this restaurant is (and it gets better every single time I go there!) My friends always joke that I rave about this place, but now every one of them that has tried it loves it as much as I do! From the second you walk in the door and see the trendy, vibrant, original decor, you can't help but be in a good mood (which is made even better once you try their signature raspberry mojito!) So far, nothing on the menu has disappointed! For appetizers, I def... read more

Where will you sit? – I went to Carnivale based on the recommendations of our friend & the hotel concierge. I walked in and saw the ambiance and energy in the large main dining room and was really looking forward to being seated & enjoying my experience. However, I was highly disappointed when the hostess seated us upstairs in a small, dimly lit, back room, not in the main dining room. If I wanted to dine in a small, quiet restaurant, I would not have come here. The management was not polite about reseating us and gave us no... read more

Oh mamacita – The mojitos are nuts, the entrees are bananas, and the desserts are official. I went here with a group of friends, and they seated us quick, service was great, and the price was decent. Despite a close friend getting so tipsy that his girlfriend had to cut his food for him, the night was a success.

Inconsistent and Pricey!!! – I went to Carnivale for the first time and loved the Empanada's and Shrimp Ceviche. The Empanda's were stuffed with ground beef and large olives. However, when I returned the very next day and those same Empanada's were now stufffed with raisins. I was very disappointed. As well, both times, my I was not impressed with the dinner portions or the actual seasoning. I would go there with a group for appetizers and cocktails, but NOT for dinner. However, service is fast and polite!!!!

Would NOT recommend eating here – Carnivale is a gorgeous place, great atmosphere and ambiance but for eating, and more importantly spending money on the meal DONT DO IT. The service was great but at the prices they are charging , for what you get . . waste. I ordered the braised short rib, it was almost all fat. I couldnt bear to even look at it. It cost 28 dollars! Coming a la carte, we ordered the garlic spinach- Bland. Again, not worth it , and the porton size on the side dishes is enough for one. The guacamole was also ... read more

User review by wak2000 – I'm not a big fan of the other Keller establishemts (vivo, marche, opera, etc) but this one pulls it together a little better. Been there three times and the food was always good. Service inconsistent. Waitress AWOL for half our meal once, and another time the waiter brought the wrong bottle of wine. Great chunky guacamole. Entrees consistently good. Big portions. Good value. Interesting selection of Spanish/Latin wines. The place is so big we've never had much of a wait with no reservations, but it ... read more

fun yum – I went with a couple of girlfriends as soon as it opened. The mood was fun and the seating varied from dimly lit to a more crowded center area seating. The drinks were great, the food large portioned but delicious!

Don't do it! – This place is all fluff and no substance. There are so many better places to go for a fun, good meal. My ribeye steak cost $55! Granted it was a special and I suppose I should have asked the waitress how much it cost before I ordered. But I had no idea it would be the most expensive steak I have ever ordered. Even before I knew it would be that much I was disappointed with the meat. All bone and fat. Do yourself a favor and pass on this place.

A feast for the senses, this Latin flavored restaurant spices up the Fulton Market neighborhood. – Vibrant and colorful define this boisterous, showy space on West Fulton Market, with a mixed crowd of families and see-and-be-seen types. From the spacious main bar, double doors reveal the principal dining room's soaring ceilings, oversized, silk-covered lanterns and walls bedecked in reds, corals and blues. Borrowing from several Latin American cultures, the menu slants toward red meat and seafood. For starters, fried whitefi... read more
