Carnitas Uruapan is one of the handful of restaurants in Chicagoland that comes to immediately mind when someone asks for restaurant suggestions. The carnitas are insanely good. I can't remember eating having ones that are so tender and flavorful. The salsa is so balanced and flavorful, I could add it to most all foods. The chicharron are top notch, and I can't imagine getting any better. I'd come here more often but the parking is horrendous.
We must have come on an off day because we don't see the hype. I couldn't go inside because there are steps and I use a wheelchair so we took the food to the park a block away. 1) I guess they changed things and no longer include the 12 oz horchata with their lunch special even though their website says they do. 2) The horchatas were watered down, not worth $3 each. 3) We asked for "mixed" and received carnitas with a LOT of jiggly soft mediocre skin. Nothing like some great carnitas, for breakfast. Just arrived from Germany and had to stop. Carnitas, salsa, Nepalese, all wonderful.
