I reserved a car two days in a row but couldn't make it those days.(mother had a stroke). On the third day I was told that rentals were no longer available to me,k because I failed to pick up the other 2.......wtf? When I asked the gentleman if my wife's name would work, I explained to him what had happened(not that I should have to per your "reserve no charge"), and he said we still couldn't rent.
