We made last minute plans to take a tour. It was end of the season but there was still plenty to see and learn. Dave showed us the bogs, explained the planting, growing, hybridization and harvesting process. He then showed us the history of equipment and how it was used. We will definitely return. Well worth the time and money.
We went to the exact location on Google maps, it led us to an abandoned motel. No cranberries to be seen!
We were fortunate to be able to join a tour at the end of the cranberry season. The tour was well organized and informative from the history of farming cranberries on Cape Cod to how the family company began. The owner’s son, James, was our tour guide who was extremely knowledgeable , took us on a tour of the cranberry bogs, and showed us antique to modern day farming equipment that is currently in use. We spent the afternoon with Patti touring the BOGS. She was an awesome tour guide. Her information was current and relative as well as very personal and enjoyable. We met the farmer and tasted fresh berries! I would encourage anyone of any age to book with Cape Cod Cranberry Bog Tours.
Incredible experience from Patti and Dave!!! We were very lucky to see the harvest, which this year lasted from the last week of October until Nov 10th. But even if you're not watching the floating red berries getting raked into a giant vacuum hose, you will get an informative tour, with a walk around the cranberry fields, an interesting history lesson, view into the modern industry (harvest equipment, water management strategies, new varieties, and more), and even a taste of raw cranberries (eh, they're just ok).
