Absolutely unacceptable. I drove past and saw employees working outside during an Environment Canada air quality warning while Toronto’s air quality was being reported as the worst in the world because of wildfire smoke. The Air Quality Health Index was at 8 (High Risk), yet this company still had crews out working. There is no landscaping job that is more important than people’s lungs. It’s very disappointing to see outdoor workers expected to continue working during significant wildfire smoke events and air quality warnings. Companies have a responsibility to prioritize worker health and safety and should consider additional precautions, modified duties, or schedule adjustments when conditions become unhealthy.
