When John Alden disembarked on Plymouth Rock as first passenger of the Pilgrims' Mayflower he could not foresee that one of his direct descendant would have given birth to the mansion that now hosts the Maine Stay Inn. In 1802 in fact the carpenter Alden Bass built a house at 22 High Street.
