I think they are trying to help any and all legal gun owners.
The CRPA/NRA lawyers in their Peruta v. San Diego lawsuit argued that Open Carry can, should and must be banned and that overturning California's Gun-Free School Zone Act of 1990 would be "drastic." The CRPA/NRA, in other lawsuits, has told the courts that "large capacity" magazines can be banned and that states can charge a fee before one can exercise his Second Amendment right. There is much, much less about the CRPA/NRA.
