Place was cool. Food tasted good, but was not even warm. Basically room temperature- is that normal? Drinks were solid. Maybe I caught the place on an off night.
Amazing food and a great vibe in this LES spot - the only other two places that you can get one of their burritos in Manhattan is in Soho or the Flatiron. Going for my third time on Saturday!
I liked it a lot, but I don't think I loved it. I would walk 8 blocks to get another pollo verde taco, which was flavorful and well paired with a kickin sauce, but I would only walk 4 blocks to have another chipotle pork taco. I would dedicate a line in a review to how much I enjoyed the soft corn tortillas, but I wouldn't write them a love song. If there was a line forming, and it was 38 degrees out with 85% humidity, I would probably stand and wait if there were four people ahead of me, but not if there were five.
Food was great as always but we arrived 3 hours before closing and salads, enchiladas and sandwiches were unavailable. Which is basically a two thirds of the menu. I find that excessive and unimpressive. If the restaurant is open all options should be available unless a late night menu is an option which it was not. But last I checked 9pm is not late night. The hostess also size up our entire party and let us know that the smallest person would need to sit in a certain seat to accommodate.
As a west coast board and bred Mexican food lover, Calexico hits the spot every time! Pretty much anything on the menu tastes good with their "crack sauce". There quesadillas are grilled to perfection and their guac is great as well. I would skip the salads and quinoa bowls and go for the authentic mexican dishes. Their other location in Greenpoint has outdoor seating and a large bar area if you find yourself in Brooklyn.
