Beignets. Have every time I'm in New Orleans. Have never found any better.

Get an au lait mid-afternoon: not a long wait and you get to enjoy this strong coffee in a more relaxed atmosphere
As a native Louisianan, I've always felt this place is overrated. Plus the whole only taking cash thing is tiresome. Wait in line for an hour at your own risk.
I was disappointed with both Cafe Au lait and the bignets. Definitely not worth the long lines. I feel it was overhyped.
It's open seating so don't be timid or you'll be waiting a while
Keep in mind it's open 24/7! We went at 6am. No lines.
