About this business

A sturdy, spicy meal offered here is the Chimichange de Pollo, a deep-fried flour tortilla wrapped around chicken and topped with melted cheese, chile sauce and tomatillo-jalapeno salsa. Not sure about spicy Mexican food? A good compromise is the Carne Asada Plate, flavorful sirloin steak quick-seared and served with refried beans, Mexican rice and guacamole. Ten different beers on draft, a full bar and appetizers are available in the Coyote Cantina or served to your table. Patio dining puts you in the middle of Old Town sho... read more

Wow this place is awesome! I came with some friends for Taco Tuesday. The tacos are like $2 to $3 each which isn't bad for the quality you get. There was plenty of meat and fixings in there. I had 3 /9the al pastor, carnitas, and carne asada) which were all great. I think I liked the al pastor one the most. Our waitress Carolyn was nice and very attentive. She helped us out with whatever we needed and we really didn't even have to ask her. The best part is she did it with a smile. The other staff members should take notice b... read more

Good place for Mexican food – Our family went here during Memorial Day weekend for a late Sunday night dinner. There was no wait and we were quickly seated. The service was friendly and fast. Positives: kid friendly, great candy shop nearby, decent food, fast service, no wait, good atmosphere Negatives: tables too close together, hard to get in and out without bumping other people's chairs, the supposedly featured live entertainment was non-existent - we didn't see them once, tortillas were a bit tough, the kid's menu very l... read more

Authentic Mexican? C'mon San Diego... Can't you do better? – We just had dinner there tonight -- to end our week long trip to SD. What a disappointment. Guess our expectations were too high. We have a better restaurant in Cleveland for Mexican restaurant than this place. First - our server was pathetically slow. He never brought the tortillas for the dinner -- and when we finally asked -- he was shocked we didn't have them -- like he had brought them already. Our drinks were empty for at last 10 minutes until we had to ask f... read more

Check your reciept – While the food was great i had a problem with the tip being written in by someone after the fact. When i complained to the manager i was basically told i was a liar. As a result of this I have recommended my company no longer do business here. I would suggest if you tip in cash to note that on the reciept. manager cares more about 10 dollars than the lost business it would seem.

old town mexican food – Of all the Mexican places I have eaten in San Diego, this one wasn't too bad. After all this time, I am still surprised how hard it is to find a sit down type of Mexican restaurant in this town, that has good food. There are plenty of smaller eatery type places, but hardly any dining. At any rate, the chips were decent, the salsa was pretty good. The Margarita had good flavor and didn't seem to skimp on the alcohol. I had the grande burrito, suprema style...The meat was good, not too chewy or stringy,... read more

Awesome tortillas! – I took my family here about two weeks ago. Normally I find some of the restaurants in Old Town are too tourisy and the food tastes cheap. Cafe Coyote doesn't feel that cheap to me or touristy. The tortillas are fresh probably since the have people our front making them. I order the Carne Asada and it was wonderful. The ambiance was great and the staff was awesome. It felt like I was in a real authentic mexican food restaurant south of hte border. They were really nice to my kids. They brought some color ... read more

Best Mexican/Great Streetside Patio – This restaurant has it all. Great food ( the tortillas are freshly made on a grill out on the patio), the best in sevice and very reasonably priced. The ambience is wonderful whether you sit inside the restaurant or in one of the outside patio areas. We have had a number of items on their menu and have never been disappointed. The Queso Fundido is always a must served with hot tortillas. The margaritas are swimming pool sized drinks guaranteed to make any occasion a FIESTA. The seating o... read more
