If a company has to send out letters formed and formatted to appear as if it is an official notification DIRECTING you to send them money or give them credit card information ( Please don't do that), then they obviously can't rely upon their service to support the business. The font, and formatting look official. Not until you find the small printed, not affiliated with US Government Agencies, does the wise individual figure out that you DO NOT have to send them anything. Smoke and mirrors. Why would anyone then decide to do... read more
Business response:
I have to assume this entity chose not to read our letter that he must have received from us. If they would've actually read the letter they would've read the following in the first paragraph of the letter we sent. "It is the sole responsibility of the license holder to notify the FCC if any component of their radio license has changed. You notify the FCC by filing the appropriate FCC application and either you file the actual application or you use a company like ours to file the application on your behalf". When someone ... read more
I received a letter from this company and nowhere does it state "you have two options". I have read it over several times and it absolutely does not state this. Obviously a scam to send money for something anyone can do that is aware of the FCC requirements at little cost.
Business response:
I assume this licensee received our letter regarding Modifications/Notifications. Yes, they are correct that we did not state "you have two options". We assume if the licensee knows how to file applications with the FCC they will ignore our letter and do their own filings. Needless to say, we only file applications when the licensee requests us to file some type of change. We've been in business for over 36 years and those running scams don't last that long. That being the case we will consider if adding the words "you have ... read more
The ability of this company to provide a “service” relies on the naiveté of those receiving their hysterical sky-is-falling letter laced with dire predictions of calamity to befall the receiver if she or he fails to send the company a “processing fee” of $120. As a former small business owner, I’ve received similar solicitations to handle the onerous task of filing an annual report with our secretary of state for a sum far in excess of the $10 charged by the state, something that can be accomplished via the Internet in a mat... read more
Company sends an official-looking document with publicly available information mined to make it look legitimate. They attempt to fool unknowledgeable people into paying a preparation fee for a very simple renewal. They could avoid looking like a scam by simply stating up-front who they are, what they do, and how they work instead of looking like they're trying to fool people into using their services that can cost more than the renewal itself.
Business response:
I apologize that this customer had an issue with our letter to renew an existing FCC license. He states that we should simply state up-front who we are, what we do and how we work. The following is taken directly from the letter they received from us answering all his concerns. I just have to assume he did not read our letter. "Business Radio Licensing has been filing new licenses, modifications and renewal applications with the FCC for over 30 years and we can help you file your renewal or renewal/modification for you".
Received an official looking GMRS renewal form and at this point, will refuse to have anything to do with the company which sent it. Aside from requesting an exorbitant processing and FCC filing fee of $165 (the FCC only charges $70), the form gives no indication that license holders can renew their license directly with the FCC. This leaves me with the impression that the business model being followed is based around tricking the ignorant into paying significantly more to have someone else file their license renewal for the... read more
Business response:
The following paragraph is taken directly from the letter Mr. Rinehart received. Our letter does specifically state in the letter sent that "You have two choices today when renewing your license. You either file the application yourself or you use a company like ours to file it for you. You are under no obligation to use our service as we exist as an option for you to get the license renewed".
They send a letter saying your current FCC license will expire (even after it has been renewed) and charge you $165.00 to renew your license, even though you can go directly to the FCC website and renew for $70.00. THIS COMPANY IS A RIPOFF, and they prey on your ignorance by sending an official-looking letter that makes you think they are working with the FCC
Business response:
We have become aware that some licensees have received letters to renew their GMRS call signs when in fact those licenses were actual recently renewed. Those renewal letters were sent out in error and we apologize for our mistake in sending inaccurate notices. In our 35 years in operation we always strive for accuracy and when something like this happens we take seriously. Again, my apologies. Also, our letter does specifically state in the letter sent that "You have two choices today when renewing your license. You either f... read more
I received an official looking letter claiming my GMRS licence was about to expire. They requested $165 filing fee to process the renewal. Thing is my licence is in good standing and was renewed several months ago using the FCC renewal system. The $165 fee is more than double what the FCC charges.
Business response:

This company operates a rather shady practice of sending official-looking letters to business radio licensees asking for processing fees for FCC license renewals that are either not needed, can be handled at FCC for free, or both.
Business response:
I assume this customer did receive a letter from us regarding the renewal of an existing FCC call sign. In order to renew an FCC license today the licensee either files the 4-page application themselves or uses a company like ours to file it for them. We obviously charge a fee to prepare and file the application as our letter explains as well as note the FCC fees charged if applicable. Business Radio Licensing has filed over a hundred thousand applications with the FCC over our 34 years in business and we apologize if the li... read more
