Purchased a $10 noise making ape for my dog at McIntyre Square store yesterday. My dog loved it but after 15 min of play the noise making device broke. Took it back today and at first was told no guarantees on toys. I insisted on seeing a displayed policy and when the clerk couldn’t produce one she gave me my money back. She was very rude and argumentative. Very empty shelves and peg boards this place is going out of business! And they wonder why we are all shopping online now. Treat me like dirt so goodbye!!!

We've been shopping at Burtons Total Pet for years. Today my daughter and I met Mr Burton. Such a nice man! Thank you for taking the time to talk with us. �
My experience with Burton's Total Pet has always been good, and I'm disappointed that stores in Pittsburgh city have closed one by one. I live near the Squirrel Hill Tunnels and now have to travel to either Irwin or McCandless to find one. Their products are what my pets love (including kitty litter, always a tricky situation), and the staff has always been helpful and, in some cases, above and beyond. Told management I had a rabbit cage and all the accessories to purchase a rabbit they had and they denied my sell said I needed to purchase the whole setup which cost $239.00. The bunny was only $60. I would not recommend the north Huntington location to anyone nothing but a scam.

I will contact the manager to find out more about this transaction, but this is a policy we adopted many years ago. People would buy an animal but put them into an inadequate enclosure. The animal suffers, sometimes dies and then the customer returns to our store and blames us for the health of the rabbit upon sale. If you have proof of your cage/enclosure and it’s clearly an acceptable habitat for the animal we would never refuse a sale. This has nothing to do with making a blind buck.
