it's a lovely space- I had the fish special which was scottish salmon and it came with a white bean stew of sorts that needed a bit more cooking - the beans were a tad underdone. had a great cocktail but was disappointed to learn they dont make fresh whipped cream for their desserts. I find it hard to believe a restaurant at this level cant make real whipped cream for their desserts - a major knock against going back in my opinion. We had really high hopes for this place, but found it to be over rated. We had a reservation, but I felt like the wait staff kind of forgot about us. We ordered 3 starts and 2 mains. One of our starters (french fries) were served pretty cold and reheated. The mains were all right, but we weren't overly impressed. Service was not great; at one point they gave us all new silverware, and then 10 minutes later came and took it away before we had used it. Went for a nice couples dinner. Food was mixed, with some lows and a few oks. Service was below average except for the very high bus who cleared out silverware twice much to our amusement. Perhaps you have to know someone but $95 per person (no alcohol) should feel a little nicer than “well, glad we didn’t have to do dishes but what a waste.”
We were pleasantly surprised at dinner this evening. The Burlingame menu looked so conventional online that we doubted it would be good. We were wrong. Preparation was very well thought-out and service was excellent. The taste of our steak frites and gumbo were both mouth watering - much better than average, with tenderness and well-balanced flavors. Burlingame is a must for a date night on the island. The only restaurant on the island that serves cold water oysters. Chefs kiss 😘
