Tax auction conducted by tax collector review — I purchased a couple of properties from their auction, and they do not disclose that you are at risk of losing hundreds of dollars. I followed the directions provided in the packet given when you purchase a property, and I was told all costs associated with my purchase would be reimbursed if the property is redeemed. I haven't lived in St. Joseph in 4 years and I just now got my property taxes in the mail from 2021. I now owe an extra $200 because of poor communication on their part.
Called to get assistance on paying my personal property & getting a receipt quickly. The woman that was supposed to assist me just could not muster a decent tone, could not comprehend customer service skills, could not understand how someone higher up MAY be able to assist, refused to transfer my call, ask for help or direct me to another area. Worst customer service I ever experienced in my life. Another reason to leave the county. Mistake moving here . Pure communism. Trying to make my pay tax on a vehicle I don't have.
For 3 years now they have been sending me records for someone who doesn't live here. Both I and that someone have reached out via phone, email, and in person a total of 14 times. Last time, the office admitted that they are aware that the person doesn't live at the address they continue to use (my address, which isn’t even in Buchanan county), that they do in fact have the individual's correct address on file, and that they continue to send the individual's records to me instead of him.
