My parent went to Brookhaven Extensive Care for rehab. The admitting nurse announced that if they had known the patient hadn't had a bowel movement they never would have admitted them. My parent was in severe pain, suffering from dementia, sleep deprivation, diminished appetite, strong medications and home sickness. The first night I was called and told my parent had been left alone in the bathroom and fallen.
