The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law on July 26, 1990. The Briggs YMCA in Olympia opened in 1997. Therefore, the ADA was passed before the Briggs YMCA was built. But they will excuse their lack of disability access by saying "it's an old building." It's not THAT old, the organization is just ableist. Review for summer y care My autistic daughter was kicked from camp without any warning or attempt to help her be more successful. At the beginning of camp we were assured that she would not be removed from camp and if that became a risk we would receive a lot of communication and opportunity to avoid that outcome. With no warning she was removed and wasn’t even given a chance to say goodbye to friends. She had no idea she was at risk of this happening and this experience has left her confidence shaken.
