A Publisher's take on Salty's – I agree with others that say Salty's takes itself too seriously. The fee for spliting a plate is little much and gives the impression that this type of behavior is frowned upon. For me, personally I would suggest the River Place . The prices are little more accomodating. The ambience supperior to Salty's with tha addition of trees to a gorgeous view of the Coluimbia. The wait service personnel do not as if they are doing a favor to acept your money as they do at Salty's. And they have a piano ... read more
Outstanding – I thoroughly enjoyd Salty's the two times I went. It was wonderful, the fish was fresh and tasty. and . The service was great with several people checking in to see if you needed anything. The accompaniments of salads, soups and vegetables were all very good too. I think it is a wonderful place for a special occasion because of the view . It is a little more expensive than a place most could frequent but definitely worth it. Regarding the previous review, the soda nor the iced tea had charges because of the ref... read more
Get a second job to eat here – My husband and I took a couple of friends to Salty's to try it for the first time. It looks like a wannabe upscale TGI Fridays. Not being very hungry we split the $20.00 cod fish and chips. We got two peices of Cod for $20!?! It was good but not $20 good. The waitress was horrible and rude. My husband finally got a refill on his soda when we were done with the meal. Oh then the best part... the check came.... $4.00 to split the 2 pieces of cod we got. Oh and rember the soda refill that finally ... read more
great value & variety for my hard earned dollar – if you haven't been to salty's lately, you are missing out. they have a new 3 course prix fixe menu for $19.95, something different every night. ribs, salmon, rockfish, seafood pasta, the list goes on. my wife & i have been in twice in the last week & a half. first time we had the pork spare ribs with a fuji apple BBQ sauce, & a dungeness crab thermidor, the second time we came in for the 3 for $19.95. it great to know you & your better half can go out & have a great meal & h... read more
Absolutely Wonderful! – My boyfriend took me here for my birthday our first year here. the food was amazing, they had a piano player, gave me balloons and dessert. Wonderful river view and really great service. I love this place!
Salty's WHAT THE HELL?! – I don't like to slam other people's opinions but when it comes to people who think Salty's has the best brunch in Portland I must digress... the food is total garbage! Don't believe the hype. If you want an experience that would be similar to the quality of a place like Izzy's or Old Country Buffet, then Salty's is for you. If you want quality food for your brunch buffet then steer clear of Salty's and head somewhere else such as The Benson. I wish I could have given Salty's a good review because it... read more
GREAT VIEW...AND NOTHING ELSE – I believe GORDON RAMSEY would rip these guys a new one...very average food and prices that would raise the eyebrows of bill gates...sturgeon wellington was overcooked...no hint of garlic in the garlic mashed potato...my wifes meal was marred by a bed of rice that could have easily resulted in a broken filling had she continued to try to chew it...I was pelted with better rice at my wedding...our free dessert was very good and well worth the price...unless you're trying to impress someone who k... read more
Not worth the $$ – I was recently treated to dinner for my birthday but was very disappointed with the quality of the food. I was looking forward to eating here as I have heard how Salty's is one of the 'must try' places in Portland; and, at $30 a plate, I expect a minimum standard of quality. There is a view of the Columbia yes. But not spectatcular. White table clothes and a big wine list yes. The menus were wrinkled and has orange swirls and looked like it was something I would expect to see at Joe's Crab Shack (nothing a... read more
Friendly Service – After dining at the Seattle location, we decided to try the Salty's in Portland. I prefer the Seattle view of city lights and the bay, but view of the river was busy with fishermen, geese, boaters. The food was good but what really impressed us was the service. Everyone was genuine and welcoming. The smoked salmon was delicious, the cioppino was good but could have had more spice/heat, and the desserts were fun- comfort food sweets with nice presentations.
