Sabateurs – Chalk up another bad review for Brake Check. I took my car in so they could reprogram my PCM. They told me that their best mechanic, Eddie, could do anything. After 3 weeks, I found out they did nothing because their computer system wasn't updated, all because they were too lazy to do so, or due to lack of competence. I had my car towed out of the shop and took it to the dealership, whom informed me, in less than 24 hours, that my wiring harness was torn apart so badly, that this car would never run again. Thank ... read more

worst place EVER! – This was by far the worst place I've ever had to deal with. I went there to receive maintenance and repair on my front breaks and rotors. I ended up getting new brakes and rotors (upon their recommendation) and left pretty satisfied with the price and timely response. This is where it gets bad. About 5 days later, my driver's side brake LITERALLY fell off. It didn't shift or slightly move; it FELL OFF! I took it back to brake check (luckily I was just down the road when this happened) and they repaired it... read more

AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE – DO NOT GO TO BRAKE CHECK. They will rip you off. I took my late model truck to brake check. After I left it there, they called 3 times telling me that I needed more and more brake components replaced (brakes, rotors, etc, etc.). I quickly went from $59 pad replacement to over $450. I got everything replaced. 5k miles later my brakes are squeeking again. I take it back, and they charge another $180 more dollars to replace the pads that they replaced 5k miles before. AVOID BRAKE CHECK LIKE THE PLAGUE.

Brake Check ruined my brakes – In the beginning of September my fiancé and I took my 2007 Cobalt to have the rotors checked because of shaking. We made an appointment ahead of time so that when we arrived our car could get right in. When we arrived we had to wait for an hour and a half for our car to even get looked at. DON'T BOTHER making APPOINTMENTS with them. Anyways the come back to us with this laundry list of things that need to be down for example, rotors need to be machined (good we figured that), Brake lines need t... read more

My son died as a result of Brake Check's gross negligence – As a result of Brake Check’s general business practices and work performed on my son’s 2000 GMC Yukon at their South Loop W location in Houston, their gross negligence led directly to his death and the tragic death of two other young adults on August 8, 2004. In connection with a civil suit I brought against Brake Check, we discovered that the company failed to follow industry standards in assembling the rear brakes and bleeding the hydraulic brake system of the GMC... read more

Either incompetent or dishonest (?) – My 05 F150 4x2's front rotors were warped. This appears to be a common problem. The rotors and wheel hub are integral on the 2WD and it takes 300 ft-lb of torque to install new rotors. I didn't have the right tools and didn't want to get into that job, so I had my wife take it there to give it a shot of turning the rotors on the truck and installing new pads. After she had dropped it off and they told her it would be $300+, they called back later and said the rotors and hub were integral... read more

Stay Away from Brake Check – Read the reviews here and elsewhere before taking your car to Brake Check. You'll find common complaints about them. They are very expensive and use the bait and switch tactic to increase your repair bill. Once they start a repair job they come back with additonal problems that cost more than the original estimate. It happened to me and then I read this same tactic in other people's reviews. Check out the reviews in Austin and surrounding cities. Do yourself a favor and find another garage to do ... read more

Bait and Switch with me too. – After they quoted me a price of $715 to replace a fuel pump, they later said the computer needed to be replaced too for an additional $800. Why wasn't I told about this computer repair until I had committed? I did some checking at another repair shop, just for comparison, and they quoted me $398 to replace a fuel pump. The car was running fine the day before it wouldn't start. No electrical problems, what so ever. I think the pump was bad but I don't trust them with the story that the computer ... read more
