I just returned from a trip to Europe and used my BMI FCU VISA card almost daily to withdraw local currency from ATMs and LOVED it! The money came from my checking account which means no APR costs. The exchange rate was very good and no extra fees (except for two ATMs). (The ship wanted an exchange rate of 1.3 (Euros to Dollars) and exchange bureaus were 1.26; BMI FCU was 1.18.) Highly recommend. I have been a satisfied member since 1987 and will continue for as long as I can.
We are very disappionted and disgusted with BMI. We refianced with BMI to go to another bank. We were told by everybody that we would get a check in the mail from the money left over from our escrow account. It is our money and we want it back! And that money was not for that. We found out that it went to our principal instead.
It is ridiculous that BMIFCU wants to charge $5/month, which comes out to $60 a year, just to hold your money, if you don’t maintain a certain monthly balance. They don’t even have a true ATM deposit, yet they want to charge $5 a month just to hold your money? Ridiculous. I have seen absolutely no positive side to banking with this credit union vs a standard bank.
