Stopped here at the tavern for a drink. Two drinks were $52.00. I ordered an Old Fasioned, one of my go to drinks. Cheap bourbon with the smallest pour I have ever seen. That on top of the least friendliest barkeep ever made for a poor and overpriced experiences ever. I do get that we are in resort town and things cost more, but at that price I expect a decent drink served with a modicum of customer service. Will not be going back.....
Our first time staying here and let me tell you, it was magnificent! Blew away our expectations! The staff is very welcoming, kind and friendly. Our room is a dream! We enjoyed dining at the restaurant and Sam was our server. She was very kind, knowledgeable and attentive. We loved it so much, we are coming back next month. We used to stay at the “big name” inn down the street. But not anymore since we discovered this gem! We highly recommend this resort!
Ultimately I’m quite happy to see the NYC design ethos making it all the way to Highlands. It fits—unsurprisingly—incorporating a timeless (almost English?) aesthetic, moody color palette, and small footprint. The drinks are good and food excellent. I even loved the controversial bathroom/shower combo. I removed a star because it stays pretty loud on weekends in rooms making it hard to sleep till around 11:00 when things wind down.
This is a lovely inn with personable staff. The rooms, lobby and dining area are very attractively decorated. (Great-looking wallpaper!) There are outdoor tables for dining or drinks when the weather is nice and fires in the fireplaces when there's a little chill in the air. The Ruffled Grouse restaurant is open for dinner or brunch. This hotel should not be open . • Old, damp, musty rooms with a persistent odor masked by artificial fragrance • Lumpy, worn-out beds that sag noticeably to one side • Uneven floors that slope significantly • Full-size mattresses (vs queen) which was not disclosed • Ongoing parking problems and poor guest support This was an extremely disappointing experience that negatively impacted our trip to Highlands.
